Every so often, we get so busy that at the end of the day we get so exhausted that sometimes we feel so reluctant to brush out teeth, especially at night. Well, the thing is, skipping to brush sometimes does not immediately or automatically lead to dental issues. The truth is, along the line, maybe after a very long time, dental issues may arise. So, don’t think that your teeth will fall out or rot Immediately, and because they don’t, doesn’t mean that they won’t eventually have issues if proper hygiene is not practiced.
It’s high time everyone understood that brushing the teeth, at least twice daily is actually the simplest habit to cultivate and keep in order to avoid a magnitude of dental health issues.
Here, we will look at five (5) things that happen when you don’t brush your teeth as often as you should.
- Plaque: this is a sticky deposit on the teeth in which bacteria proliferate. And as we know, bacteria usually cause the tooth enamel to wear away, thereby making the teeth susceptible to decay. The message here is that when you don’t brush your teeth, plaque create a room in your mouth, stick on your teeth and invite bacteria to feed on them, thereby leading to dental issues.
- Cavities: this refers to a decayed part of a tooth. When you don’t get rid of plaque, which is a sticky deposit containing bacteria covering the teeth, they begin to go into the protective enamel of the teeth, and then to the down layers and finally causing cavities. Now, the thing about cavities is that if left untreated, they automatically lead to tooth loss.
- Gingivitis: this refers to inflammations of the gums. It’s important to know that plaque and cavities, if left untreated can become the sole causes of gingivitis. This is why brushing of the teeth is so important so as to avoid gingivitis that is often accompanied with bad breath, among others.
- Periodontitis: this is a condition that refers to inflammation of the tissue around the teeth, often causing shrinkage of the gums and loosening of the teeth. Did you know that gingivitis is one of the first steps towards periodontitis? Oh yes, it is! This condition/challenge is bone infection and the main cause of tooth loss. You see why nothing should stop you from brushing your teeth at least twice a day? It will help reduce and prevent dental problems such as this.
- Heart disease: it has been medically proven and studies have also shown that people who regularly brush their teeth at least twice daily are not likely to experience atrial fibrillation and heart disease.
The summary of this article is to let you know the dangers that come with not brushing your teeth as expected. Some people prefer to brush once a day and think they are good to go while some groups of people don’t brush at all for a certain period, which is not healthy at all. The bottom line here is that you should brush at least twice daily and in addition to that, floss everyday as well.
